Why this exists

Grey knew something was wrong. There was no system behind him.

No data, no early framework, no way to understand what was happening before it became something he couldn't come back from.

Greyson Spector was my brother. He was 22 years old, funny, brilliant, and loved by those who knew him.

What stayed with me afterward was not that nobody cared. It was that there was no system in place to catch the warning signs early enough.

Grey's story is what happens in the absence of information, community, and the right tools at the right moment. So I built the system Grey never had.

Alcohol is the most pervasively abused substance on college campuses. It touches virtually every student, and early awareness has the clearest path to real impact. That's where GreyBand starts.

Questions

Common questions from parents.

Does my student have to want to do this?

Yes, and that's a feature, not a bug. The program only works if your student is willing to participate. Most students are more open to it than parents expect, especially when it's framed around having better nights out rather than being monitored. The app is genuinely fun to use and was built for students, not parents.

Will I be able to see my student's data?

No. All participant data is confidential to the student. This is intentional. The program only works if your student trusts it completely. You'll know they're enrolled and progressing through the steps, but their BAC data and personal reflections are theirs alone.

Does this encourage drinking?

No. It meets students where they are. The reality is that most college students drink, and most do it without any accurate information about what's happening in their body. GreyBand provides that information and creates the conditions for intentional decisions. Students who drink less or not at all can still benefit from the education, risk profiling, and social accountability features.

What if my student's drinking is already a serious concern?

GreyBand is an education and awareness program, not a clinical treatment. If you have serious concerns, we'd encourage you to also speak with a counselor or healthcare provider. That said, many students don't recognize their own patterns until they see them in data. The program's personalized check-ins are often a powerful first step toward that recognition.

What if they don't finish the program?

Students complete the program at their own pace over 6 to 12 months with soft milestone reminders along the way. The Drink Smarter Guarantee applies to students who complete all 16 steps. If they do and don't feel the benefit, we'll refund your enrollment in full.

Who is behind GreyBand?

GreySun Technologies was founded by Cade Spector, a Duke University graduate (Philosophy and pre-med, Class of 2023), after losing his brother Greyson to substance misuse and suicide in 2020. The app was built with co-founder Thomas Florian. This is a mission-driven company built around a personal loss, not a wellness startup chasing an exit.
